Opendoor 2.0

This project focuses on transforming the Opendoor home browsing experience by unifying fragmented services into a seamless platform. Customers previously struggled to navigate separate product lines, impacting engagement and transaction rates. Additionally, high interest rates reduced buyer affordability, while operational inefficiencies from multiple codebases drove up costs. This new platform not only consolidates the experience into a single, intuitive interface but also enables buyers to purchase homes directly from Opendoor without an agent and access exclusive off-market listings unavailable elsewhere. By improving discoverability and increasing scheduled tours—a key metric for higher clearance rates—this solution enhances efficiency, making buying and selling homes simpler and more accessible.

Sell your way

This project focuses on enhancing Opendoor's seller conversion rate by addressing challenges in its cash offer program, which struggles with a high offer spread due to macroeconomic factors. By combining Opendoor’s various selling options into a unified, seamless experience, the project aims to provide sellers with more flexibility, improved earnings potential, and a smoother, more predictable process. The solution simplifies decision-making, offering sellers certainty and ease without the complexities of traditional real estate transactions.

Off-market marketplace

This project is to increase buyer awareness and comprehension of Off-market listings when exploring homes on Opendoor. Unlike traditional listings, where agents set a listing price after completing repairs, remodels, and staging to maximize home value, Off-market listings do not have set prices. Opendoor streamlines the selling process, allowing sellers to avoid the stress of traditional methods while attracting competitive offers from serious buyers—without the extra steps of determining a listing price. As a result, buyers often submit lower offers due to the absence of a predefined price. To address this, we designed an interactive price slider that displays the price range sellers would accept while visualizing offer strength. At the same time, we ensured that sellers would always receive higher offers than the Opendoor Cash Offer, enabling them to sell their home without the complexities of traditional methods while achieving a strong financial outcome comparable to selling with an agent.

Hiring the best local services

This project aimed to improve consumer trust and hiring rates for Yelp advertisers by addressing a key challenge: advertisers had a 20% lower hiring rate than non-advertisers, leading to decreased retention due to low ROI. A major factor was that consumers were skeptical of Yelp-suggested advertisers, uncertain about how businesses were validated. To solve this, we redesigned the experience to better educate consumers on Yelp’s vetting process, ensuring they understood that advertisers were qualified and available for the job. Additionally, we introduced an expectation-setting mechanism to guarantee consumers received only compelling quotes from high-quality pros. This not only increased consumer engagement but also streamlined the scheduling process, making it more user-friendly for both businesses and Yelp customers—ultimately driving higher hiring rates and advertiser retention.

Nearby Jobs for Advertisers

We developed and tested a new subscription model for Yelp advertisers to maximize the value of their ad program while increasing Yelp’s profitability. As part of this initiative, we launched "Nearby Jobs," a feature that helps advertisers access more quotes within their service areas, creating greater opportunities to be hired by local consumers. This improved the ROI for advertisers and made it easier for consumers to receive multiple quotes quickly. Additionally, we introduced a refund policy for unrelated leads, building advertiser trust and increasing satisfaction with Yelp’s advertising program.

Yelp Pros Marketplace

This project focused on transforming Yelp’s role in home services by creating a dedicated marketplace that enhances consumer engagement and delivers higher-quality leads to businesses. While Yelp is widely recognized for restaurants, its awareness as a home services platform remained low, leading to poor monetization and retention rates. The existing hiring experience lacked value during the early discovery and research stages, resulting in low ROI for service pros. To address these challenges, we designed a distinct yet cohesive partner platform—one that offers a differentiated experience while maintaining the familiarity of Yelp. This new verticalized marketplace provides consumers with better tools to find and hire service professionals while ensuring businesses receive more qualified leads, ultimately strengthening Yelp’s position in the home services industry.
